New Practice DNA (Did Not Attend) Policy

Please note that the practice has a policy for patients who do not attend their appointments and fail to cancel.

In 2016 there were 1,160 such DNAs (did not attend) for GP appointments.  This is equivalent to 77 wasted surgeries last year.

Patients who persistently DNA without cancelling their appointments will be subject to this policy and may be removed from the practice.

All care will be taken to ensure that there are not genuine reasons why the patient did not attend without cancelling.

The procedure will be in line with national guidance and NHS England guidance.

A copy of our policy can be viewed here.

Why is the surgery patient population growing?

Q. At the last patient group meeting a question was asked by the patients as to why the surgery is taking on more and more patients.

A. The surgery has a practice area (which is available to view on our website).

We have to take patients who are living with in the practice area and we cannot refuse to register such patients.

Despite the patient list growing from about 3000 in the late 1990’s to 5600 patients now, the surgery has continued to provide the same level of access. Indeed, the surgery came top in the region in the General Practice Survey in January 2016 for access for appointments and satisfaction for service.

It is estimated that the surgery population will grow in the next 5 years up to a list of 7000 patients.

The Royal College of General Practitioners suggests that is a good size to provide good quality services.

The surgery is currently experiencing significant work force pressures and unfortunately we have to stop extended hours surgery for a period of time. When the work force pressures reduce we can recommence the service.

Last week, 44 people didn't turn up for their appointments. That's the equivalent of 7 hours worth of clinic time misused.
If you book an appointment with the Nurse or Doctor that you no longer need PLEASE remember to cancel it.
